$66,000 PUTS TYABB NETBALL ON COURT FOR MORE ACTION

Member for Hastings Neale Burgess was very pleased to announce today that

• New netball courts will be constructed at Tyabb Football Netball Club through
• $66,000 funding under the Country Football Netball Program, re-iterating that the
• Napthine Government is building a more active Victoria through grassroots sport

Mr Burgess said: “The 145-strong Tyabb ‘Yabbies’ Football Netball Club can look forward to playing netball on its own netball courts following today’s announcement that the Napthine Government will provide $66,000 to construct two netball courts at Bunguyan Reserve.”

Minister for Sport and Recreation Damian Drum and Member for Hastings Neale Burgess today joined club members at the reserve to announce the funding for Tyabb’s own home netball courts from the Country Football Netball Program.

“The Napthine Government is committed to a more active Victoria and we’re investing in community sport to achieve this,” Mr Drum said.

“Through the Country Football Netball Program we’re building more sustainable, quality sport infrastructure with a focus on catering for growth in female participation.”

Mr Burgess said the $66,000 funding boost will give the Yabbies the opportunity to host more training, junior and senior development programs as well as local games and finals competitions.

“With the demand for netball in Tyabb going from strength-to-strength, the new competition standard courts will ensure the Club won’t have to hire courts at nearby schools any more to cater for its growing ranks,” Mr Burgess said.

“This will bring the football and netball teams and players closer together and it also opens up the reserve to more events including school sports, mixed netball – the possibilities are endless,” Mr Burgess said.

Mr Drum thanked funding partner the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council for securing the funding and its $42,000 contribution, as well as the Tyabb Football Netball Club for its $27,000 of cash and in-kind contributions, and the RACV for donating $5,000 to the project.

“The program is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to build a better Victoria by investing in quality sporting infrastructure in regional and outer Melbourne communities,” Mr Drum said.
